Further information

Shimada’s machines are designed to support a wide range of conventional workpieces using a Y-axis, driven tools and a double-walled housing. This versatility makes them ideal for complex machining operations where precision and productivity are key.

The machine is designed to minimise downtime – in fact, no chips are produced for just 2.2 seconds! Thanks to a design in which the first spindle machines whilst the second loads and unloads, an effective loading time of zero seconds is achieved. During the 2.2 seconds it takes for the door to open and close and for the table to rotate 180 degrees, no chips are produced at all – meaning that the machine’s cutting efficiency is as close to 100 % as possible.

The machine is equipped with two chucks, which means that machining can be carried out on both the front (OP10) and rear (OP20) sides of the workpiece simultaneously. This enables high-throughput machining and eliminates the need for two separate single-spindle NC lathes. The result is a 50 per cent reduction in the number of machines required, less floor space and significantly reduced investment costs.

Another key feature is the unique external loading design for the spindle, which provides easy access to the chuck during manual loading and the positioning of workpieces. As the chucks are positioned outside the machine’s access door, it is easy to use robots, carry out manual loading or change chucks. Furthermore, the robot can be mounted directly onto the machine, which saves additional space and increases production flow.
